The Taylor’s Law School Awards Ceremony was held on the 8th of September 2021, with Nimesha Theva and Adrian Chioh Jia Feng acting as the ceremony’s emcees. The Law School’s biannual event commemorates the exceptional performance of its students in both academics and extracurricular activities, in recognition of their tremendous efforts throughout the academic year.
The ceremony, which was held virtually, commenced with a warm welcome address by Professor Dr Khong Kok Wei, the Executive Dean of the Faculty of Business and Law. In his address, Dr Khong extended a heartfelt thanks to Taylor’s Law Schools’ Legal Profession Partners for their ongoing support, and lauded the faculty staff and students for their achievements in light of the challenges faced during the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic. Following this, Mr Hacharan Singh, Taylor’s moot master and senior lecturer, welcomed the occasional speaker, Mr Jal Othman of Shook Lin & Bok. Mr Othman’s speech, themed “What got us Here, will not get us There”, imparted words of wisdom on how young, aspiring lawyers should strive to adapt themselves to the demands and changes that time will invariably bring to the legal profession.
“...the School of Today is no longer the School that we know. We are now to be re-schooled for tasks and assignments that do not now exist.”
The event then swiftly transitioned to the presentation of awards. The Academic Award recipients received book prizes sponsored by Taylor's University's esteemed Legal Profession Partners, who were all in attendance at the event. Ultimately, the award’s ceremony was an encouraging reminder to the students of Taylor’s Law School that, with hard work, resilience and focus at the forefront, they can thrive in anything they set out to do.
