On the 6th of April 2022, the Taylor’s Law School Awards Ceremony was held, once again with Nimesha Theva and Adrian Chioh acting as the emcees. The event was an especially momentous occasion for all– not only did it acknowledge the outstanding performance of our law students in their academic and extracurricular endeavors, but it also marked the very first physical ceremony organised in well over two years.
The event kickstarted with a welcoming speech from Professor Dr Khong Kok Wei, the Executive Dean of the Faculty of Business and Law. Dr Khong credited the Law School’s Legal Profession Partners, academics and students who all– in spite of various challenges that emerged alongside the pandemic– ensured that the Law School continued to thrive, before applauding the academics and students for their achievements in such unprecedented times. Following a short introduction from Mr Harcharan Singh, the Law School’s very own moot master and senior lecturer, the ceremony swiftly transitioned to the enlightening speech delivered by Mr A G Kalidas Krishnan s/o Gnanaprakasam, the immediate past president of the Bar Council of Malaysia. Speaking from a wealth of experience, he urged young lawyers to broaden the horizons of their legal knowledge, maintain a correct mindset and adapt to the latest technological advancements to survive in this competitive industry. As he aptly puts it: “Chance favors only the prepared mind, you must be prepared for the challenges you face even before you enter the job market”.
After the insightful speech, it was time for the most anticipated segment of the ceremony– the presentation of awards. Special awards were first presented to our students who participated in the National Inter-Varsity Mock Trial Competition and the LAWASIA International Moot Competition in recognition of their outstanding results. Shortly after, the winners of the Academic Awards were presented with book prizes by the representatives of the Law School’s distinguished Legal Profession Partners, and this was succeeded by the presentation of souvenirs to the Legal Profession Partners which marked the end of the ceremony.
Lexicon would like to convey our heartfelt congratulations to all prize winners. We trust that behind every story of success lies commitment and dedication that remains unseen by the rest, so it was truly inspiring to witness our students’ hard work come to fruition on this special day. To our Legal Profession Partners who sponsored the book prizes and graciously spared their time to present the awards, to Mr A G Kalidas Krishnan who generously imparted his wisdom to our young and aspiring students, to the Faculty that made this physical event a success and to our students for always striving to be the best– we extend our utmost gratitude to all parties for making this special event possible.
